Ghosts of War Review

Ghosts of War is a 2020 horror film about five battle-hardened American soldiers assigned to hold a French Chateau near the end of World War II. Formerly occupied by the Nazi high command, this unexpected respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy far more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield.

On the one hand, I felt the story was intriguing; however, at times the story would slow to a halt with what I felt was only to extend the run time. To reach the 90-minute mark. On the other hand, when it got going, I found this to be an immensely engaging and entertaining horror film, with a unique setting. The idea to have these soldiers in a house for the majority of the run time instead of a cliché Nazi science lab or something, was an excellent choice as it didn’t feel like a story I’d seen play out a thousand times before. While the haunted house trope was reasonably safe with what it did, a few sequences were excellent and kept me on the edge of my seat.

A compelling story with some cool effects and I’d say a right choice for a Friday night horror film.
